Chisinau, 14 July 2007 - BISTA consultant, Paul Hurks, (Netherlands), traveled to Chisinau, Moldova, to begin work on Moldova's Country Action Plan to achieve compliance with IFAC Part 3, in
collaboration with ACAP, Moldova's only IFAC recognized member body of professional accountants and auditors. ACAP
has a membership of approximately 800 accountants and 20 auditors, who
are licensed by the Moldova Ministry of Finance.
The survey conducted sheds important light on Moldova's current
situation regarding IFAC compliance. BISTA's upcoming twinning
activities in Moldova will include a study of new accounting and
auditing laws, co-drafting a new three-year Strategy Plan for ACAP,
ammending ACAP's charter and by-laws, as well as several seminars,
workshops, and trainings.

At the SEEPAD Conference "Public Oversight According to the 8th Directive" in Chisinau, Moldova, on 28 April 2007 , representatives of Royal NIVRA signed a memoranda of understanding with SCAAK, the professional body of accountants and auditors in Kosovo, and with ACAP, the professional body of Moldova, to engage in activities under BISTA's Twinning Initiative. Under this activity, Royal NIVRA commits to mentoring the professional body on best practices in accounting and auditing, aimed at increasing the quality and credibility of the profession in Kosovo.

Members of SEEPAD and interested stakeholders convened in Chisinau, Moldova on 28th of April 2007 to discuss issues of interest to member countries. This event was crucial for the future development of the accounting profession in Moldova as well as all SEEPAD member countries. The conference also contributed to the understanding of new provisions of the Law on Audit Activity adopted recently by the Moldovan Parliament.

Association 24-25 April 2007 in Lisbon.
BISTA project team took this opportunity meet and plan upcoming important initiatives, including twinning programs, IES benchmarking, and a comprehensive Accounting Reform Index (ARI).

R. William Phelps (CARANA Corporation) and Gert Karreman, internationally recognized experts in accountancy reform, will participate in the SEEPAD General Assembly on 28-29 April 2007, at the Hotel Leo Grand Convention Centre in Chisinau, Moldova.
SEEPAD , the South Eastern European Partnership on Accountancy Development, is a regional accountancy reform initiative comprised of the principal accounting and auditing associations in South Eastern Europe (SEE). The goal of SEEPAD is to promote accountancy reform in SEE and raise the level of accountancy to internationally recognized standards of practice.

William Phelps, CARANA Corporation-BISTA Program Manager, traveled to Pristina, Kosovo, to work with BISTA consultant Jan Tyl on conducting the first BISTA Country Action Plan. In collaboration with the Society of Certified Accountants and Auditors of Kosovo (SCAAK), BISTA representatives, Mr. Phelps and Mr. Tyl worked with SCAAK Executive Director Ardiana Bunjaku on the preliminary stages of the BISTA Kosovo Action Plan.

William Phelps, CARANA Corporation-BISTA Program Manager, met with SEEPAD Executive Director, Dr. Marin Toma today, to discuss progress on BISTA and the role BISTA will play in continuing to support SEEPAD. Mr. Phelps also shared draft Memoranda of Understanding regarding Twinning and Practical Experience Training between SEEPAD and international professional bodies and organizations. The discussion also centered on the preparations for the upcoming SEEPAD General Assembly on 28-29 April 2007, at the Hotel Leo Grand Convention Centre in Chisinau, Moldova.
