The Professional Oversight Board of the United Kingdom, an operating board of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) recently published a new edition of Key Facts and Trends in the Accountancy Profession. This publication brings together in one place a range of information on the major audit firms and a number of the professional bodies who provide accountancy and related services. The fifth edition reflects this information up to 31st December 2006.Paul George, Director of the Oversight said: “This report illustrates the continued strength of the UK accounting profession and its growth reflects the attractiveness of the profession to new recruits both in the UK and internationally. Total fee income for the major audit firms continues to grow significantly, partly as a result of the work related to the implementation of IFRS. While the Big Four firms continue to dominate the audit market for the largest listed companies it is interesting to note the increased market share of non Big Four firms for smaller listed companies.” Key Facts and Trends in the Accountancy Profession is available at: http://www.frc.org.uk/pob/publications/.
